POL 26-46

Images can be powerful when taken in honesty such as the event in Tienanmen Square were one man stood alone against 4 tanks and I remember hearing this in high school (37). However other powerful images can also be manipulated and deceitful which are the results of "false advertising". For example 3 examples I can think of are manipulated in cosmetics, food, and fitness industry. This can make pretty much all those commercial on t.v about the biggest burgers, the fountain of youth, and insta-abs a reality instead of a dream. It can make anything on t.v look real when in actuality these images are a lie because the images that are manipulated are used to make people believe what they are seeing.

Interventionist Video Ideas

Twin Powers (Blood Brothers Marvel)
Here are some ideas we got from the examples shown in class. Since my brother and I decided to collaborate we decided it would be interesting to apply our twin characteristics. For example if Johnny was going into Burger King and ordered something, Johnny would sit down and wait for his order. Now this is where it gets interesting, when the order is ready, Richard who is wearing the exact same clothes as Johnny, picks up my order, while Johnny is still sitting down to see if the person who took the order notices. Another idea could be we order a pizza and take it into subway and eat it with the pizza box lifted up so people can see that we are eating a pizza at subway. Still brainstorming on more ideas that can utilize our twin powers.

POL 337-343

On page 338 the book states that building were decorated with little to no ornamentation simply to create beauty with the use of form. Robert Venturi et al disagreed with creating designs that had functionality rather creating design for design's sake (339). This showed the importance of visual culture when sculptures like larger-than-life donuts, visual jokes and other creative designs were incorporated in ever day locations (339). This is important because I was recently in Moses Lake where I saw a meat butchering place in town and I saw two black "silhouette type" (cows without detail just the color black) on top of the roof. These cows may have no function except just being on the roof but it connects with the butchering place in which it create's a way for people to notice the little finishing touches places like these may have. Also driving by can be very interesting becuase I don't see cows on roofs of buildings very often.

Blog for Triptych

When I first started the project I had a little trouble looking for a found object. I was going to bet a a piggy bank cat that I was going to use but I chose something that was on a smaller scale. So I found a red roll of tape that I had and at first I didn't really have a reason for choosing the object but once I starting thinking about it I could apply it to the real world. I would use the color red to enhance one part of my triptych and so it could connect with my found object. Plastic pollution is what I ended up going with and finding a proper location was key. I chose to use a water fountain at Washington State University and it connected with my triptych because the water fountain promotes the use of non plastic water bottles. This is what I ultimately created:

POL 401-13

Global brands such as Nike, Starbucks, McDonald's, etc. are symbols of capitalism in the U.S.(402). Walmart to me was a big example of capitalism and in high school I remembered a documentary called Walmart: The High Cost of Low Cost where it talked about why Walmart had low prices and it was because they didn't pay the workers enough. Not only that, the documentary even stated that the managers would document hours and take away and hour or two from their shifts so the workers got screwed. The documentary also states that their were protests in various areas which is related to the boycotts that were involved with Starbucks (402). This is why I wouldn't want to work at Walmart because they care less about the worker and more about the customer which I believe is unfair. Global brands can take advantage of the workers so that they can get money to expand their brand.

Google Article

Upon reading the article, I felt that Google wants to fight against piracy. But they are doing so in a way that is ineffective because all their doing is bribing other companies to pay them so their sites can be closer to the top. This is not an effective way to stop illegal sties because people know certain sites that allow them to download free music or movies. However, an effective deterrent would be something along the lines of what Korea has done with their Internet. The only way to stop piracy and illegal downloading in it's tracks would be to remove all illegal sites or penalize users for downloading illegally. A way to penalize users could be to temporarily disable Internet access so that they will be more hesitant when trying to download illegally.

POL 389-401

On page 394 the book discusses how satellite imagery offers an amazing view of the earth. It then goes on to state that some would call this a "god's eye view" (394). I disagree with this because a god would see the earth differently than how we see it plainly see with it with our mortal eyes coming from a satellite. The book then continues and says, Jody Berland states how we view the planet from the "eye of god" (394). Again man tries to put the word "god" in front of words when we cannot fully understand god let alone see through the eyes of  god.
